Study for Melanoma / Skin Cancer
Melanoma is a serious form of skin cancer in humans. It is currently increasing at the fastest rate of all cancers in the United States and is the 7th most common serious cancer in the United States. Melanoma can be fatal. However, death can be prevented if the melanomas, initially located on the skin, can be detected in the early stages.
Dr. Ryan Owsley is involved in a research study that uses a novel non-invasive method to capture skin lesions that are suspected of being early melanoma. This method could represent advancement in the future of melanoma care.
YOU MAY QUALIFY IF YOU MEET THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA:
Are at least 18 years of age
Have a pigmented lesion that is suspected of being a melanoma and requires surgical removal
As a qualified participant you will still have a standard biopsy taken at the time of your scheduled visit to the Dermatologist. In addition the non-invasive method (called tape-stripping) will be done at no cost to you.
You will not directly benefit from participating in this study. The information we gain from this study may help identify a means to diagnose melanoma early on using a non-invasive technique in the future. There is not additional cost to you for participating nor is there any payment to you as a participant.
